Trae Young available to play Friday vs. Thunder [UPDATE]

Hawks PG missed Wednesday’s contest with the Clippers due to thigh contusion.

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 12:10 p.m. — Young is available to play vs. the Thunder. Jeff Teague will head back to the bench with Young back in the lineup. I don’t imagine Trae will be under any type of minutes restriction, but we’ll see. The injury never seemed too serious.

I think the biggest impact here is in the betting line. On DK Sportsbook, the Hawks are 10-point underdogs. That was most likely under the assumption Young wouldn’t play. With Young in there and Steven Adams potentially out, this game could be much closer than the line suggests.

UPDATE: Jan. 23, 12:24 p.m. — Young is being listed as questionable for Friday’s game vs. the Thunder.

Young was held out of Wednesday’s win over the Clippers and Jeff Teague started in his place. The Clips were very shorthanded without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, but it was a solid effort from Atlanta. Teague only posted three points with eight assists in 25 minutes. Brandon Goodwin was the more effective PG, scoring 19 points in 20 minutes.

UPDATE: Jan. 22, 5:47 p.m. — Young has been ruled out Wednesday vs. the Clippers.

So with Young sidelined, Jeff Teague should start for the Hawks against the Clippers and I like him as a strong value at $4,000 on DraftKings. Also see below for more appealing plays.

Atlanta Hawks PG Trae Young is questionable to play in Wednesday’s game vs. the Los Angeles Clippers. Young is dealing with a thigh contusion, so it doesn’t seem to be anything overly serious. Still, we’ll need to monitor the potential All-Star starters status leading up to lock. Young was in a very good spot for DFS and fantasy basketball.

Fantasy basketball analysis: Atlanta Hawks PG Trae Young

In a scenario in which Young would be sidelined, normally we’d be in panic mode. Of course that will be the case if you’re a Young owner in season-long. In DFS, we now have a legit option to replace Young in Jeff Teague ($4,000). If Trae is out, Teague is a very appealing cash-game option and would probably be a free space in all your lineups tonight. He’d be highly owned, especially if Patrick Beverley and Kawhi Leonard sit for the Clips.

We can also expect John Collins ($7,100) to be the focus on offense and see more touches. He’d be more of a GPP play in my eyes and I don’t think his ownership will be too inflated given the 12-game slate variance. Kevin Huerter ($5,300) and De’Andre Hunter ($4,700) are also decent plays.
