The Kansas City Chiefs returned to practice on Wednesday as they begin preparations for their Super Bowl 54 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. They won’t release a practice participation report until next week, but head coach Andy Reid told the media on Wednesday that wide receiver Demarcus Robinson would not practice due to an illness.
Robinson splits time with Mecole Hardman behind Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins on the Chiefs wide receiver depth chart. Last week against Tennessee, Hardman had 27 snaps to Robinson’s 25, while the week before, Robinson had 37 to Hardman’s 11. Over the past two games, Robinson has caught three of six targets for 35 yards.
Robinson’s season peaked in Week 2 when he caught all six of his targets for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He started opposite Watkins a week after Hill fractured his collar bone. Hardman was plenty busy as well, but Robinson had the monster day. He’s had two touchdowns since, and it’s been mostly hit or miss for him.
