The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers square off in Super Bowl 54 on Sunday, February 2nd. We’ll be breaking down everything you need to know to prepare your daily fantasy football lineups for the big game. We’re starting with a player-by-player preview for the skill position players on the two teams.

Matt Breida is a dynamic player, averaging over five-yards per carry in his last two seasons and accumulating 1,818 total yards and seven touchdowns on 322 touches in that span. He’s a difference maker but has also fallen out of favor of late.

Season performance

Breida started the season in a time with Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert and from Week 1 through 10, he touched the ball nine or more times in every game. In Week 10, Breida suffered an ankle injury and missed three games. When he returned, he was Mostert’s backup, while Tevin Coleman ran third on the depth chart for a few games. But Coleman surpassed Breida in the last two games of the season.

Breida had two fumbles, losing one, in Week 15 against Atlanta, a game the team shouldn’t have lost, but did. That appears to be why Breida was sent to Kyle Shanahan’s dog house to finish the season.

Playoff performance

In the playoffs, Breida didn’t play much against the Vikings in the Divisional round, but did get in for mop with a big lead. Unfortunately for Breida, he lost another fumble. When Tevin Coleman went down with a shoulder injury the following week against the Packers, Breida still only played on two snaps while Mostert got 29 carries.

Now that the 49ers are in the Super Bowl, I doubt Kyle Shanahan has a change of heart, as he’ll be as turnover averse as possible. Tevin Coleman appears like he will be ready to go for the Super Bowl after separating his shoulder in the Championship game, but even if he were to miss the game, Breida appears like he would still see limited work behind Mostert.

Matchup

The Chiefs have allowed the fifth-most DraftKings points and yards-per carry to running backs this season, which would be great for Breida if he could get the ball. Unfortunately, we can’t bank on that happening.

DFS pricing and analysis

If Coleman were to miss this game, it would give a slight opening for Breida to be a long-shot sleeper at his cheap price and two weeks of good practices could inch him out of the dog house to help facilitate his upside. At the moment though, Coleman should be able to go in Miami.
