The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers square off in Super Bowl 54 on Sunday, February 2nd. We’ll be breaking down everything you need to know to prepare your daily fantasy football lineups for the big game. We’re starting with a player-by-player preview for the skill position players on the two teams.
49ers RB Tevin Coleman dislocated his shoulder in the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers and his status for Super Bowl 54 is sort of up in the air. Coleman has plenty of time to get back on the field by next Sunday, but a dislocation isn’t exactly something that’s easy to manage. Still, it’s the biggest game in Coleman’s career (arguably) and I’d imagine he’ll be ready to go. Coleman did miss practice again Thursday, however.

Coleman had an up-and-down season for San Francisco. He dealt with injuries throughout the year and showed flashes of his talent, being brought in by coach Kyle Shanahan, who tutored Coleman while both were with the Atlanta Falcons. Coleman finished the season with 544 rushing yards and six TDs, also adding 21 receptions for 180 yards and a TD in 14 games. The 49ers rode the hot hand in most instances throughout the regular season and that meant Coleman had to ceed carries to Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida at times.
Coleman looked fantastic in the divisional round against the Minnesota Vikings, rushing for 105 yards and two TDs on 22 carries in the victory. The 49ers ran the ball a hefty 47 times in that game, with Mostert going for 58 yards on 12 carries. Coleman was less effective against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship, racking up just 21 yards on six carries before the injury.
The Kansas City Chiefs defense is much improved from last season and even earlier this season. However, if there’s one area where they are vulnerable, its on the ground. During the regular season, the Chiefs allowed 123.9 rushing yards per game. Kansas City has done a decent job so far in the playoffs, and held Derrick Henry to 69 yards on 19 carries in the AFC Championship game. The Chiefs’ focus should be on stopping the run, given their secondary has performed well and QB Jimmy Garappolo and the receiving corps isn’t too threatening.
DFS pricing and analysis
I can’t really recommend touching Coleman much in DFS on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Right now, we don’t really know if he’ll get many touches given the injury. My guess is Coleman does enough in practice next week to warrant being active, but that’s about it. Mostert was a beast in the NFC Championship game and the Niners still have Breida on the roster to be the change-of-pace back. Coleman would maybe get some goal line work if he’s healthy enough, but I doubt that’ll be the case. At most, Coleman is a decent tournament option with the injury question marks.
