The 2020 Super Bowl is five days away and tension will slowly start to mount this week. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have both arrived in Miami, and final preparations have begun. Monday was media day (“Opening Night”) and while there will be plenty of media availability the next three days, teams can start to try and focus on the task at hand.
The Chiefs are sitting as a 1.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the point total at 54. The Chiefs remain -122 on the money line, while the 49ers are +108. The spread has remained roughly the same since it opened a little over a week ago. The money line opened the Chiefs at -124 and the 49ers at +102, so there hasn’t been a huge change. The point total has seen the most movement, climbing from 53 to 54.
Point spread betting
Heading into Tuesday and the approaching first practices of game week, the betting remains split on the point spread. At DraftKings Sportsbook, 68 percent of total bets on the point spread are on the Chiefs, but 64 percent of the money bet is on the 49ers. This has remained the case almost since the line opened.
Money Line betting
Given the money on the 49ers in the point spread, it’s not surprising bettors are backing them on the money line. 55 percent of tickets bet and money bet is on the 49ers. This is a fantastic matchup, with two of the best coaching staffs in football squaring off. Aside from getting the Ravens and/or Saints into the Super Bowl, I’m not sure the NFL could have asked for a better matchup. A blowout seems unlikely, so with things this close, the underdog bet makes sense.
Point total betting
This is where virtually every sportsbook in America will be praying. 88 percent of the handle and 81 percent of tickets bet are on the over. You could probably go to any sportsbook in the country and they’ll be getting a similar split. It’s hard to bet against the Chiefs putting up big points, and the 49ers have shown they can score as well. The only way this goes under would seem to be if the 49ers defense shows up in a big way.
