The San Francisco 49ers conducted their first practice of game week for the 2020 Super Bowl, and running back Tevin Coleman is making important progress. He was listed as limited on the team’s Wednesday practice participation report due to his shoulder injury.
Coleman dislocated his shoulder in the NFC Championship Game and was listed as a DNP at all three practices last week. He did walkthrough work and was able to remove his non-contact jersey by mid-week, but they were still DNPs. Kyle Shanahan was somewhat optimistic about Coleman, and him getting limited work on Wednesday bodes well for Super Bowl Sunday.
Coleman started the NFC title game but was replaced by Raheem Mostert after the injury. Mostert was already impressing in the game, and turned it into a monster 220 yard, four touchdown effort. Kyle Shanahan and his dad Mike have always impressed in their ability to turn under-the-radar running backs into big time performers.
The big question for DFS players is what to make of the 49ers running back situation heading into Sunday. Do you play Coleman or Mostert? Given Coleman’s injury, it would seem likely that he gets a limited workload. Mostert has been the more effective back and likely has more upside than Coleman in this matchup against a shaky Chiefs run defense.
