The NASCAR Cup Series is headed to Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday for the YellaWood 500. The race will begin at 2:00 p.m. aired on NBCSN. The field is wide open in this one, and that’s reflected by the betting splits on DraftKings Sportsbook.
NASCAR made changes to how qualifying in the three national series (Cup, Xfinity, Gander Outdoors Truck) in August. Three performance metrics will be utilized, with each one weighted a little different. It breaks down as follows.
- Finishing position from the previous race (weighted 50%)
- Ranking in team owner points standings (35%)
- Fastest lap from the previous race (15%)
This system will be used for the remaining regular season races and the playoffs.
Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Joe Logano are all even at +1000 and have the best odds to win. Blaney and Elliott have each won twice at the venue since 2017 while Logano has won one Cup Series race there in the last three years. Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski aren’t far behind at +1100 though, so this race could be a tight one.
Here’s what the starting grid looks like for Sunday’s race.
