How and what to watch for South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt

Both offenses have had a hard time finding the end zone.

It’s a battle of winless teams when the South Carolina Gamecocks travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. Neither team has had the easiest schedule leading up to this point, as every opponent both teams have faced currently sits in the Top 20.

Vanderbilt has struggled to score points and ranks last in the nation in points per game, at a mere 9.5 per outing. Their defense is doing better, but not by much. They allowed just 17 points to Texas A&M in Week 1, but last week they let LSU pop off for 41.

Vandy does have some key offensive players coming back this week. RB Keyon Henry-Brooks and wideouts James Bostic and Devin Boddie all missed the first two games of the season. Boddie hasn’t seen any college action yet, but coaches have talked him up quite a bit this offseason.

South Carolina fared a bit better in their two games, hanging with No 16 Tennessee until the end, and losing by two scores to the third-ranked Florida Gators. On paper the team’s offensive output so far seems pedestrian, but they’ve been going up against elite opposition, particularly against UF. Quarterback Colin Hill has competed over 60% of his passes with three touchdowns and just one pick.

By looking at the trends within these teams and how their offenses have performed so far in 2020, it’s a pretty simple choice. These two might not be able to break 40 combined in Madden.
