How and what to watch for Pitt at Boston College

Pitt and Boston College are coming off their first losses of the season. Which team will get back on track?

The Pittsburgh Panthers dropped themselves out of the Top 25 last week, and the Boston College Eagles head into Saturday’s ACC matchup coming off a loss as well. They’ll face off this Saturday in Chestnut Hill at 4:00 p.m.

Pitt lost as double-digit favorites at home against the NC State Wolfpack 30-29 on Saturday. The Panthers allowed a quick scoring drive, and NC State scored with just seconds remaining to hand the home team their first loss. Pitt’s defense wasn’t its usual self, and quarterback Kenny Pickett threw the ball 39 times for a career-high 411 yards but just a single touchdown pass. He also tied for a team-high 40 yards on 15 rushes with running back Vincent Davis having a pair of touchdown runs.

Boston College went down 14-3 early on Saturday against North Carolina, and scored late to cut the lead to four. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec threw for 313 yards and completed 37 of 56 passes with two touchdowns. Hunter Long put together a solid performance at tight end, hauling in nine passes for 96 yards. Wide receiver Zay Flowers finished with 61 receiving yards on eight catches.

Boston College won the last matchup between these two teams 26-19 last season in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Panthers have won the previous four games dating back to 2002.

The Best Bet

I was ready to establish a principle play of riding Pitt unders all season long, but the Panthers disobeyed on Saturday with a combined 59 points in their loss. I think they get that corrected against Boston College, and the offense will have a much more balanced attack than we saw against NC State. After a brief slip up, let’s get back on the Pitt under train.
