How and what to watch for No. 2 Alabama at Ole Miss

Who isn’t excited for the latest installment of Nick Saban vs. Lane Kiffin matchup in the SEC? It all goes down Saturday afternoon.

The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide will head on the road for the second time this season following a pair of lopsided victories to play the Ole Miss Rebels coming off their first win in 2020.

Alabama was tied at 14 early in the second quarter against Texas A&M last week before the Tide rolled and built a 21-point lead heading into halftime. Mac Jones completed 20 of 27 passes for 435 yards and threw four touchdown passes with one interception. John Metchie III caught five passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and Jaylen Waddle added 142 yards receiving on five catches with a touchdown.

Ole Miss beat Kentucky in overtime 42-41 on Saturday for the first victory of the Lane Kiffin era for the Rebels. For the second straight week, Ole Miss put up 35 points in regulation, so the offense is already operating at a high level. On Saturday, Matt Corral completed 24 of 29 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 51 yards on 13 carries.

Alabama has won the last four games of this series including 59-31 in Tuscaloosa in 2019.

The Best Bet

Ole Miss beat Alabama twice in a row in 2014 and 2015 under Hugh Freeze. Since those two games, the Crimson Tide beat the Rebels easily and scored 48, 66, 62 and 59 points in the last four meetings. It’s certainly possible Alabama’s offense won’t be stopped in this game, but this Ole Miss offense looks pretty good so far in two games with Kiffin. Twenty-four is too many points. Let’s ride with the home underdogs.

Pick: Ole Miss +24.5
