What to do with Dalton Schultz in Week 5 fantasy football

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Detroit Lions Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

The NFC East has been by far the worst division in football, with no team really being able to get out of its own way. This week we have an inter-division matchup as the winless Giants take on the 1-3 Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz has appeared on the injury report during the week with a thigh injury, but he’s expected to be a full-go on Sunday. Schultz has had to step in to the Cowboys’ TE1 role after a season-ending injury to Blake Jarwin and he’s been productive.

So what should you do with him in your fantasy lineup against the Giants defense?

Fantasy Football analysis: Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz

By just looking at the schedule, you’d imagine it would be smart to start Shultz against New York. The Giants have been pretty stingy against the pass, though. Even though they’re 0-4, they’ve only given up two touchdowns through the air all season.

Schultz has been a productive member of a high-powered Dallas offense, with 219 yards and two scores. The Cowboys have only failed to score under 30 points one time all year. Schultz is the fourth leading pass-catcher on the team behind an incredible rotation of wideouts. But the Giants give up just an average of 4 fantast points to tight ends so far this year, so it might be a tough play.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

The Giants defense hasn’t given up a touchdown to a tight end all season, and they’ve really struggled against the run. The Cowboys have been an extremely pass-heavy team in 2020, but the Giants run defense has been a much weaker unit than the secondary. It’s a hard choice. He does have the potential to have an incredible game, but it’s a risk. I’d sit him.
