How and what to watch for Coastal Carolina at No. 21 Louisiana

A pair of 3-0 teams will battle it out in some Sun Belt action on Wednesday night. Which team will remain undefeated?

The No. 21 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns continue to ride high off their season-opening road win over the Iowa State Cyclones, and will play the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a game between a pair of 3-0 teams on Wednesday, Oct. 14. This game was postponed from Saturday due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Delta.

After beating Iowa State 31-14, Louisiana is coming off a pair of games it should feel fortunate to win against the Georgia State Panthers and Georgia Southern Eagles. Louisiana rallied from 14 points down against Georgia State and needed a 53-yard field goal to beat Georgia Southern in the final seconds. The Ragin’ Cajuns haven’t played a game since Sept. 26. The Cajuns have done it with the run game, averaging 5.1 yards per carry, and with quarterback Levi Lewis getting 8.0 yards per attempt with four touchdowns through the air this season.

Like Louisiana, Coastal Carolina beat a Big 12 team early in the season with a road win over the Kansas Jayhawks. The Chanticleers doubled up the Campbell Fighting Camels 43-21, and handled the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Oct. 3 52-23. Grayson McCall has nine touchdowns against one interception this season with 11.6 yards per attempt, and CCU tends to try and win through the air.

The series between the two teams is tied 1-1. Louisiana won this game last season 48-7 in Conway, South Carolina.

The Best Bet

Both teams have had plenty of time to prepare for this game since it was expected to be played on Saturday, so nobody has much of an edge there. Let’s go with Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers haven’t played a great schedule but won every game by double digits, while Louisiana is very close to being 1-2 this season. Coastal Carolina has a decent shot of winning this game, so let’s go with the Chanticleers as more than a full touchdown underdogs.

Pick: Coastal Carolina +7.5
