We’re heading into Week 6 of the 2020 NFL season and there are a couple interesting lines on DraftKings Sportsbook. We have a few thoughts on the early betting splits.
Sunday’s matchup between the Carolina Panthers (-141) and Chicago Bears (+117) is expected to be one of the more competitive games of the weekend. The Panthers have won three straight games without Christian McCaffrey and are favored by 2.5 points as the home team. However, bettors are leaning on the Bears heavily. Bettors have placed 79 percent of the handle and 76 percent of the total bets on the visitors, who toppled the depleted Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5. Chicago has a sturdy defense and has been able to rally behind Nick Foles, but Teddy Bridgewater has helped give Carolina one of the most dynamic passing attacks in the NFL. Bridgewater ranks second in completion percentage (73) and fifth in passing yards (1,460).
The Baltimore Ravens are favored by 7.5 points ahead of their matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. They haven’t lost since falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 and have one of the best defenses in league. Lamar Jackson hasn’t put up amazing numbers, but Baltimore’s elite run defense and quality secondary will make things hard for the Eagles. Carson Wentz has struggled with his skeleton crew receiving corps this year, but has managed to build a connection with Travis Fulgham while DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, and Jalen Reagor are out. Philadelphia put up a season-high 29 points against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, but the public isn’t banking on a competitive game against Baltimore. The Ravens have amassed 82 percent of the handle and 81 percent of the total bets on point spread wagers.
The Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings are expected to have a shootout, as the over/under for total points is set at 55.5. Atlanta fired Dan Quinn after posting 16 points in a lost to the Panthers in Week 5 and scored 15 points the previous week as well. Minnesota is giving up an average of 30.4 points per game, so the Falcons could have a bounce back performance. Both teams have been terrible against the pass, but only 11 percent of the handle on total points bets is on the over. It appears like most bettors expect one of these teams to flop.
