Sunday AM update: The 49ers defense will be without linebacker Kwon Alexander, but otherwise both injury reports are not going to impact this one too much. The 49ers are struggling right now and one has to wonder how this game script will look. If the Rams take a big lead, the running backs could feast. Darrell Henderson remains projected as the starter and is a strong start this week. Cam Akers gets a slight nod over Malcolm Brown, but neither has the upside of Henderson in this matchup.
Los Angeles picked up another win against Washington in Week 5. The passing game was rolling, but the running game continued to be a committee split. With Cam Akers expected to be worked into the mix even more in Week 6, how are we to make sense of this from a fantasy standpoint?
Fantasy Football analysis: Rams RBs Darrell Henderson, Cam Akers, Malcolm Brown
Let’s take a look at season stats to start. Darrell Henderson has four touchdowns with a 4.5 yards per carry (YPC) average and seven receptions, Cam Akers has zero TDs with a 4.3 YPC average and one reception, and Malcolm Brown has two TDs with a 4.0 YPC average and nine receptions. Clearly no one jumps off the page.
That is unfortunate since the Rams could be managing a lead against the Niners and favoring the run, and we’ll want to predict the hot hand. Head coach Sean McVay has talked up Cam Akers’ role a bit this week, and seeing his efficiency (6.8 YPC) in his first week back since his rib injury is definitely encouraging. For fantasy purposes, though, that’s just not enough to trust.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Only start Henderson or Akers in deep leagues. Sit Brown.
