How the public is betting Georgia vs. Alabama in Week 7

It’s unclear whether Nick Saban will appear on the Alabama sideline on Saturday night. As we wait, here’s a look at what bettors have done leading up to the game.

Update 12:30 p.m.: Nick Saban will coach Alabama tonight against Georgia.

In what might be the biggest game of the 2020 college football regular season, the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide will host the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night.

At this point, it’s uncertain whether Nick Saban will be on the Alabama sideline for kickoff. Regardless, there will be plenty of action bet on this game. What have we seen so far from bettors? Should you side with the public? Here’s a breakdown.

All odds and info is provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point spread

Sportsbooks opened with Alabama as -5 favorites, which is where the Crimson Tide stand on DraftKings. Alabama is seeing roughly two-thirds of the bets with 66%, while 76% of the handle is also on the Crimson Tide.

Is the public right? Yes, I’m siding with the public here. Saban or not, Alabama can beat a Stetson Bennett-led Georgia team by a touchdown.

Over/Under

Sportsbooks opened the point total at 49.5, and we’ve seen a massive line movement with DraftKings currently listing the number at 58. Obviously sportsbooks are seeing quite a bit of money on the over. Among DraftKings bettors, 80% of the bets are coming in on the over in addition to 76% of the handle.

Is the public right? If you took the over at 49.5, yes that is incredible value at this point. The last three games for Alabama had point totals of 57, 76 and 111. Georgia’s defense could be the best in the country, so 58 is a fairly high number.

Moneyline

When it opened, sportsbooks had Alabama’s moneyline odds at -195 with Georgia at +155. DraftKings lists Alabama at -200 and Georgia at +145. The Crimson Tide is getting 50% of the bets on their side in addition to 59% of the handle.

Is the public right? Alabama will win this game. It’s hard to imagine waking up on Sunday morning with the thought of the Crimson Tide’s offense being outscored by this Georgia offense.
