The Alabama Crimson Tide might have trailed 24-20 at halftime, but they completely dominated the second half in a 41-24 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
With the win over his former defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Tide head coach Nick Saban moves to 21-0 all-time against his former assistants via a 21-0 second half.
Two second-half turnovers were the difference, as Georgia starting quarterback Stetson Bennett threw three total interceptions that doomed any chance of a Bulldog upset. He finished 18-40 for 269 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Mac Jones was a star for Bama, with a gaudy 24/32 for 417 yards and four touchdowns with one interception on his first pass of the game. Najee Harris showed why he’s a prized running back prospect, with 31 carries for 152 yards in a workhorse performance. Wide receivers Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle combined for 17 catches for 328 yards and three touchdowns.
The Tide rolled through the second half, adding on 266 yards and capitalizing on the turnovers to pull away. Most importantly they held the Dawgs to 5.2 yards per play and 2-7 on third down in the second half.
The spread on the game varied between -4 and -6.5 all week, but the overwhelming victory means that even if you teased UGA to the max, your ticket is a loser.
