While Aaron Rodgers has gotten most of the attention, understandably, for the resurgent Packers this season, Green Bay’s ground game is playing a major supporting role. It starts with running back Aaron Jones, who’s got 374 rushing yards and four touchdowns, along with a not insignificant 135 receiving yards and two more scores. But with a tough game against the Buccaneers this week, it’s fair to wonder if there’s any fantasy value to be had among Green Bay’s running backs.
Fantasy Football analysis: Packers RBs Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams
Jones lost ground on the NFL leaderboard for yards from scrimmage, but partially because the Packers had their bye last week. He’s yet to match his Week 2 performance when he exploded for 168 rushing yards, another 68 receiving yards, and three total scores. But he had a solid outing in his last game, rolling up 111 total yards and finding the end zone on a first-quarter touchdown pass from Rodgers.
The Bucs defense hasn’t been overly generous to running backs, who are averaging just over 42 rushing yards per game against this unit. That said, even some of the league’s best have had limited success against Tampa. In the season opener, Saints RB Alvin Kamara scored twice and had 67 total yards. In Week 2, Christian McCaffrey had two rushing touchdowns and 59 yards on 18 carries, and he added another 29 yards on five receptions. So while Jones may not be in line for another explosive performance, he’s a solid start this week.
Williams has a role to play in Green Bay’s offense too, but it’s not significant enough to put him on the fantasy radar in any format, unless Jones gets hurt.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Aaron Jones. Sit Jamaal Williams.
