The New England Patriots are back in action after a Covid-19 delay resulted in a Week 5 bye. They were scheduled to face the Denver Broncos, but the game was pushed to Week 6. There were concerns it would be pushed further back due to an additional positive Covid-19 test, but it appears the game will in fact happen.
Fantasy Football analysis: Patriots RBs Damien Harris, Rex Burkhead, James White
Harris returned in Week 4 and quickly secured the lead role in the ground game. He rushed 17 times for 100 yards in the team’s 26-10 loss to the Chiefs. It’s notable however that he had the fewest snaps among the team’s three running backs. Harris had 23 snaps, Burkhead had 26, and White had 40. Burkhead had 11 carries for 45 yards and a five-yard reception, while White had three rushes for 21 yards and seven receptions for 38 yards.
The game script should be a little different this week against a shaky Broncos team. The Patriots are the clear favorite and if they can build a decent lead, it would potentially bode well for Harris. That being said, the Broncos have done a great job defending the run, giving up the fewest fantasy points per game to running backs across the league.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Harris as an RB2 in standard leagues, along with flexing in some but not all PPR leagues. Flex White in slightly deeper PPR leagues. Flex Burkhead in 14-team or greater PPR leagues. Given how often the Patriots shake things up with their running backs, there is some downside regardless of which of the three you have.
