Friday PM update: Michael Thomas has officially been ruled out with a hamstring injury for Week 7, per ESPN’s Field Yates. With Emmanuel Sanders out due to Covid-19, the Saints are thin at receiver. Expect Tre’Quan Smith, Jared Cook and Alvin Kamara to see a bump in work while Drew Brees loses his fantasy upside against the Panthers this week.
Friday PM update: Michael Thomas wasn’t spotted at practice Friday, per Nick Underhill. That makes no practice for Thomas after he injured his hamstring in warmups on Wednesday. Reading the obvious tea leaves here, Thomas will not play against the Panthers.
Friday AM update: Michael Thomas’ hamstring injury will make him a “long shot” to play this Sunday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. If this bears out, Tre’Quan Smith and Emmanuel Sanders will again get boosts in work as they take on the Panthers.
Thursday PM update: After tweaking his hamstring on Wednesday, Michael Thomas wasn’t seen at the open portion of practice on Thursday, per Nick Underhill. A downgrade in the middle of the week is not a good sign. His availability for Friday’s practice will be an important one. He was officially announced as a DNP on Thursday afternoon.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas hasn’t played since he suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1 and was limited in practice on Wednesday. Thomas is dealing with ankle and hamstring injuries, according to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero.
Thomas was on track to play in Week 5 before he got into an altercation with a teammate at practice and earned himself a one-game suspension. Two weeks ago, he was listed as questionable with an ankle injury before being ruled out. The hamstring would appear to be a new injury, which could affect his status for his team’s Week 7 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
Drew Brees has struggled without his go-to guy but saw life from Emmanuel Sanders in Week 5. Sanders tallied 12 receptions for 122 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers and seems to be figuring out the Saints’ offense.
The Panthers have one of the better pass defenses in the NFL but have struggled against the run. If Thomas misses a fourth straight game, expect to see a healthy serving of Alvin Kamara against Carolina.
