How the race order will be set for Sunday’s Cup Series race at Texas

We go over the starting over order and betting favorites ahead of Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Cup Series will travel to Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500. The race is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be aired on NBCSN. We’ll go over the the betting favorites and how the starting order will be determined below.

The starting grid has been determined by random draws that take team owner points into account since the restart, but through the playoffs is using a new system.

Three performance metrics are utilized, with each one weighted a little different. It breaks down as follows.

  • Finishing position from the previous race (weighted 50%)
  • Ranking in team owner points standings (35%)
  • Fastest lap from the previous race (15%)

Kevin Harvick (+240) was just edged out by Joey Logano in the Hollywood Casino 400 but is favored to win on DraftKings Sportsbook. Denny Hamlin (+450) has the second-best odds while Logano (+750) ranks third.
