In a light heavyweight bout on the early preliminary card of UFC 254, Da Un Jung will take on Sam Alvey this Saturday live from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and available on ESPN+.
Jung opened as a heavy favorite and is 2-0 in his UFC career and 13-2 in MMA. Not a big-time grappler, Jung is one of the more aggressive strikers, averaging 6.59 significant strikes per minute in the promotion. That aggression has helped land him both a submission and knockout at the UFC level but he gets hit a lot too, absorbing 7.05 strikes per minute. He lands 43 percent of his attempts and defends 47 percent.
This will be Jung’s first fight of the year. In a tough weight class, this would be a huge win for the 27-year-old.
The veteran Alvey is 33-14 in his MMA career with one no contest as well. On a four-match losing streak, “Smile’n” has lost two during his skid to currently-ranked light heavyweight fighters. With his last win coming in the middle of 2018, he is a strike-heavy fighter that lands 3.11 blow per minute at 45 percent accuracy. He absorbs 3.22, defending 55 percent.
At 34 Alvey is a bit older, but he’s still got more big fights to his name — one reason backing the longshot might have value.
