Odds to win the 2020 Big Ten Championship

There are 14 teams competing for the wrongly-named league’s championship. One is a huge favorite, and one longshot the bettors love is out there.

Big Ten college football returns on Friday night, with the Illinois Fighting Illini taking on the Wisconsin Badgers to open the leagues 2020 campaign. But according to bookmakers and bettors it might be a fait accompli who will walk away with the title this season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes start the year as -400 favorites to win the Big Ten Championship Game at DraftKings Sportsbook. With Heisman candidate Justin Fields at quarterback, and Oklahoma transfer Trey Sermon in the backfield, there’s plenty to like about last year’s champion and College Football Playoff semifinalist.

The team getting the most cash however are the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who at 20/1 are getting 27% of all the cash being wagered. PJ Fleck and his team won the Outback Bowl over Auburn to close out last season, and the return of Tanner Morgan at quarterback combined with an eligible potential first-round pick in Rashod Bateman gives them plenty of offensive punch. Can they Row The Boat all the way to Indianapolis and the title game?

But the wager the public likes the most is the Purdue Boilermakers, who are 100/1 to take the championship but getting an astonishing 22% of the cash wagered. Boiler Up was just 4-8 last year, but Jeff Brohm has the fans fired up with 5’9 Rondale Moore making amazing plays on the outside. It’ll be a sweat for a lot of fans if they can string a few wins together early.
