This game is going to get really ugly really fast for the Syracuse Orange. They’ll head down to Death Valley to take on the Clemson Tigers, fresh of their 73-7 beatdown of Georgia Tech. This game might not end that poorly, but it very well could.
Syracuse has had a rough season. The team has one win and their offense has been basically non-existent. It’s not like they’re going up against elite defenses every week either, they just aren’t producing yards or points. Quarterback Tommy Devito has struggled, to put it mildly. He has just 593 yards on the season and is barely completing half his passes. One running back, Sean Tucker, has been impressive. He’s gone for 299 yards and two touchdowns, but there’s virtually no production behind him as every other rusher has a combined 108 yards and no touchdowns. The team’s rush defense has been solid, only giving up over 100 yards one time. But the pass defense is another story, allowing nearly 1,200 yards through the air and seven touchdowns through five games.
That’s not going to get much easier taking on the best quarterback in the country this week. Clemson’s junior QB Trevor Lawrence has continued his absurd career in 2020. He threw for five touchdowns last week in just over two quarters of football. That’s more than Devito has on the entire season. In total he has more than 1,500 yards, 15 touchdowns and just one interception. They also have arguably the best rusher in the country with Travis Etienne, who averages over 6 yards per carry and has five touchdowns on the ground. That’s three more than the entire Syracuse offense. Etienne has more rushing yards than the Orange too, with his 436 against Syracuse’s 401.

There’s really no rational reason to bet on this. But I suppose if you’re looking to make a value play, you could throw a couple bucks in Syracuse. If something crazy happens, you could end up rich.
