What to do with Drew Brees in Week 7 fantasy football

We go over Drew Brees’ fantasy football outlook ahead of the Saints Week 7 matchup against the Panthers.

Game update: Saints WR Emmanuel Sanders was placed on the reserve-COVID list after testing positive on Friday. Though he is now in quarantine and away from the team, he did practice with the Saints on Thursday. The NFL will be monitoring this situation closely in case there is a need to postpone this matchup.

The New Orleans Saints will come off their bye week aiming to extend their two-game winning streak. The Carolina Panthers present a great opportunity to do so. As the third-widest spread in Week 7, the Saints are slated to sail past the Panthers. So should you start Drew Brees?

Fantasy Football analysis: Saints QB Drew Brees

A sluggish start to the season has turned fantasy owners off of Brees. He currently ranks 19th in DraftKings fantasy points among all quarterbacks with a 19.61 average. Alack of weapons has been one of his problems, as he’s been without Michael Thomas for much of the season. This week he will again be without Thomas and also Emmanuel Sanders, who has played well with Thomas out. That leaves Tre’Quan Smith, Jared Cook and Alvin Kamara as the main weapons, while the team could go run heavy against a bad Panthers run defense.

It’s worth noting that the Panthers rank last in the league in sacks, so Brees should feel all types of comfortable in the pocket, but who will he throw to? If the Panthers can force the Saints to throw more than they’d like, Brees could push into startable numbers, but I’d rather wait until he gets his full arsenal back.
