The 2020 Presidential election is nine days away, and polling is going into overdrive. It’s an uncertain time, but the latest polling from Texas is likely worrisome for the GOP. A new Dallas Morning News/University of Texas-Tyler poll of registered and likely voters has Joe Biden with a slim lead over Donald Trump.
NEW Dallas Morning News/UT Tyler poll shows Biden +2 in TEXAS among registered voters, +3 among likely voters
— Emma Kinery (@EmmaKinery) October 25, 2020
TEXAS registered voters
Biden: 46%
Trump: 44%
TX likely voters
Biden: 48%
Trump: 45%
MOE rv: +/-3.08ppts; lv: 3.22ppts
The numbers fall within the margin of error, but this is not the direction Donald Trump wants to be trending as the campaign comes down the final stretch.
We’re in one of the more unpredictable times in recent memory, so this is just one data point to consider. Recent polling has been all over the place, but the overall market should be viewed as favoring Trump. Over at PredictIt, Trump winning Texas is still priced at 71 cents.
Texas is not one of the states that is available in the DraftKings Sportsbook election pool, but if it did unexpectedly swing to Biden, it would effectively guarantee Trump loses. Biden winning Texas is still not a strong likelihood to happen, but it’s much more in play nine days out from the election.
