New York Jets rookie running back La’Mical Perine scored his first touchdown of his career on Sunday from five-yards out and caught 2-of-3 targets for 16 yards, totaling 55 yards on the day. It’s not a game you’ll read about in the history books, but it is a step forward for the rookie, as his 13 touches was his highest total of the season and he saw work near the goal-line.
Coach Adam Gase wanted to get Perine more work and that appears to be happening, as the Jets aren’t winning anything soon and they need to see what Perine can do. The run defenses they face moving forward aren’t great, so there is opportunity for elevated numbers if he can continue to see his touches increase. Frank Gore isn’t going away, but Perine is a player they want to develop for the future.
Perine is rostered in 16 percent of Yahoo leagues and is worth a roster spot during the bye week conundrums.
