The Charlotte Hornets are interested in selecting Memphis C James Wiseman in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Observer reported on Tuesday. The Hornets have the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, which will take place on November 18th. The report also mentions that the Hornets would be willing to trade up from the third pick to secure Wiseman. The Minnesota Timberwolves have the first pick and the Golden State Warriors pick second.

Wiseman is viewed as the best big man available in the 2020 draft class, which isn’t exactly deep or filled with talent. The 7-footer only played a handful of games at Memphis before being declared ineligible. He decided to sit the rest of the season out and wait for the draft, where he should go in the top 5. Wiseman is very athletic and had he stayed in school, would likely be considered as the best overall prospect.

The Hornets roster lacks depth in the front court and that is likely why Charlotte wants to grab Wiseman. The report from the Observer mentions that Georgia G Anthony Edwards would likely be the backup plan to Wiseman if he’s gone in the first two picks. The Warriors could be the team worth trading for to move up a spot and get Wiseman. The Dubs have been rumored to be looking to move the No. 2 pick, possibly for an established player or simply to secure more assets.
