Carlos Hyde doubtful, Travis Homer questionable in Week 8

Seattle running backs are hurting for Week 8, but the team should get Travis Homer back.

Friday PM update: Carlos Hyde is listed as doubtful and Travis Homer is questionable to play agains the 49ers, per the injury report. This jives with what Pete Carroll said this morning, that Hyde would have trouble playing while Homer should be able to go. Chris Carson is a game-time decision, so we’re still without clarity, but we can take Hyde out of our fantasy lineups this week.

Friday AM update: Pete Carrol was on a sports radio show this morning, and said that Travis Homer would be back for Week 8 but Carlos Hyde is a game-time decision, but that his injury “might keep him from getting there,” per Brandon Gustafson. Carroll was more positive about Chris Carson than he was Hyde, also calling him a game-time decision. At this point, DeeJay Dallas is the only truly healthy back taking on the 49ers this Sunday.

Thursday update: No Seattle running back other than rookie DeeJay Dallas was able to practice on Thursday, per Michael-Shawn Dugar. Friday will a be a big day for Carlos Hyde and Travis Homer, as they probably need to get in some work to have a chance to play against the 49ers.

The Seattle Seahawks’ starting running back Chris Carson is considered week-to-week because of a foot sprain and was one of three running backs who did not practice on Wednesday. Carlos Hyde (hamstring) and Travis Homer (knee) also didn’t participate and are banged up ahead of Week 8.

Seattle is set to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 and could be undermanned in the backfield if Carson can’t play. Carson has more carries (66) than Hyde, Homer, and DeeJay Dallas combined and leads the Seahawks with 323 rushing yards. He has three scores on the ground and three receiving touchdowns this year, and that production will be difficult for his backups to match.

Hyde has 31 carries and flashed some of the burst we saw from him in 2019 with the Houston Texans by rushing for 68 yards and a score on 16 carries against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. He’s likely to do the bulk of the work on Sunday, as Homer and Dallas haven’t been very productive. The 49ers have been solid against the run this season and could thrive against Seattle’s depleted backfield.
