Friday update: Joe Mixon will miss practice once again, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The odds look to be very long for Mixon to suit up against the Titans this week. Giovani Bernard will get another start and has value as a fantasy RB3 or flex play.
Thursday update: Joe Mixon is not practicing again with his foot injury, per Tyler Dragon. He’s now truly trending toward missing Week 8 against the Titans. Gio Bernard would get the start in his stead.
Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon won’t be able to practice on Wednesday, per The Athletic’s Jay Morrison. Coach Zac Taylor hasn’t been too giving with information on Mixon, saying he was “day-to-day” at one point, but other reports had put Mixon as “week-to-week.” With Mixon not practicing, it seems like the week-to-week report is more likely.
The Bengals face the Titans in Week 8 and then have a bye in Week 9, which may guide how the Bengals look at Mixon’s injury. And with foot injuries for running backs, you can’t be too careful.
Mixon’s backup and third-down back, Giovani Bernard, took over in Week 7 against the Browns, rushing 13 times for 37 yards, while nabbing five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. He isn’t going to blow the doors off the competition, but would again be a useful fantasy play this week against a Titans defense that has been middling so far this season.
