Friday update: Aaron Jones has been ruled out for Week 8, per Reiner Olivia. Jamaal Williams will again take the lead job in a game where the wind could be a big factor.
Thursday update: Aaron Jones is not practicing for a second straight day, according to Matt Schneidman. He is trending in the wrong direction for Week 8.
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones sat out the team’s Week 7 contest against the Houston Texans, and it sounds like he could miss at least one more week. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told the media it helped Jones to sit last week, “but he’s got to continue to improve and get better each day,” per Rob Demovsky. LaFleur emphasized, “we’ll be smart with him” and don’t want to lose him for the long term.
Jamaal Williams was the clear starter in place of Jones last week. He played 55 snaps while A.J. Dillon played 14 snaps. Williams had 19 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown and caught four of five targets for 37 yards. Dillon had five carries for 11 yards and no targets in the passing game.
The Packers face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 and Willliams appears on track to be the choice at running back. Minnesota’s run defense ranks 20th in efficiency and 26th in adjusted line yards. We’ll need to wait out the week, but Williams seems a decent bet to be the fantasy football start this weekend.
