Jeff Wilson out in Week 8, Tevin Coleman could return

We break down the latest news about the 49ers backfield heading into Week 8.

The San Francisco 49ers have been dealing with an assortment of injuries at the running back position and the latest is Jeff Wilson. The 49ers placed him on injured reserve this week after he suffered a high ankle sprain in a three-touchdown performance against the Patriots.

The 49ers 53-man roster currently includes Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty. Wilson, Raheem Mostert, and Tevin Coleman are all on injured reserve. The team designated Coleman to return, so he is eligible to return immediately. There is no word yet on if he will be activated in time for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

For now, Hasty and McKinnon are the two to watch for fantasy football. Hasty has emerged as the leader of the two, but 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan also said they were purposely resting McKinnon last week. That creates some issues for projecting who will get starter-worthy snaps as you decide your fantasy lineups. We’ll see what we can interpret from Shanahan as the week progresses.
