New York Giants running back Devonta Freeman was able to get work on the side at practice on Thursday, but was a DNP on the injury report. Freeman hurt his ankle last Thursday against the Eagles and Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis took over after he left.
The Giants play the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football this week, so Freeman still has a chance to get in a practice Friday or Saturday. If he can’t go, Gallman appeared to be the lead back after he left and would probably make the start. But, he will share work with Lewis and is in possibly the worst matchup he could be, as the Buccaneers have been a brick wall on defense.
Tampa Bay has allowed just 2.7 yards per carry to running backs, stifling Josh Jacobs and Aaron Jones over their last two matchups. Gallman or Lewis would need to luck into a touchdown to have any value this week.
