Adrian Peterson opened up practice this week with a clean bill of health but landed has now landed on the injury report. The Detroit Lions running back was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice because of an abdomen injury. He is no longer the top option in Detroit’s backfield but could cause the Lions to shake things up in their Week 8 matchup against the Colts if he’s not 100 percent on Sunday.
Peterson leads Detroit in carries (80) and rushing yards (315) but has seen his production drop in recent weeks. He’s averaging less than 3.5 yards per carry since exploding for 93 rushing yards in Week 1 while D’Andre Swift has flourished by rushing for 143 yard and scoring three touchdowns in his last two games. Swift also leads all backs with 152 receiving yards on the season and could get a sizable spike in usage if Peterson is limited on game day.
Kerryon Johnson appears to be the odd man out but could get a slight bump in action if the backfield is depleted.
