How and what to watch for Oklahoma State vs. Kansas

The Cowboys are expecting QB Spencer Sanders to return from injury this week.

NCAA Football: Kansas at Oklahoma State Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

Les Miles and the winless Kansas Jayhawks will face off against the undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday night for both squad’s second conference game of the season.

The Jayhawks haven’t been able to do anything right so far in 2020. After getting blown out at home by Coastal Carolina in week one, they lost by a 33 point margin to a Baylor team that’s supposed to be rebuilding. Kansas is ranked in the bottom 12 for both points scored and points allowed. Their defense has struggled against the pass and the run, allowing more than five yards per play and have been letting opposing QB’s complete over 60% of their passes. Offensively Kansas has gotten a lot of garbage time yards, because large portions of the game have been garbage time. In fact, they’ve only scored 10 points in the first half. Kansas is being trounced in the first half of games, outscored by a combined 45-10.

No. 17 Oklahoma State handled business with relative ease against West Virginia last week, winning 27-13. The Cowboys are expecting to get their starting QB, Spencer Sanders back from injury this week, which should take some pressure off a ground game that’s seen a heavy workload since Sanders went down early in week one. Getting some semblance of a passing attack back would do wonders for Heisman hopeful RB Chuba Hubbard. He’s shown elite talent in previous seasons, but hasn’t showed off his special skills yet this year. A struggling team like Kansas could be just what he needs to get going in 2020.
