For all the games we’re handicapping this week, we’ve got a secret: Game film! We’ve watched a ton of football this week to try and determine who is what they appear, and who is just bad. It looks like BYU is the real deal, but who else can we put into that unexpectedly good category? And who just might suck?
Also if you’re not watching our film room breakdowns of college football games each week, you’re missing on ways to pick up some extra cash not just pregame, but with in-game wagering as well.
The Picks
Auburn Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs -7.5
Georgia might have the best defense in college football, and with J.T. Daniels expected to finally start at quarterback, they fill in the biggest hole the Bulldogs have had for years now. That’s what happens when you let Jake Fromm and Justin Fields leave your program. The drummer in Spinal Tap has been a better managed position than QB under Kirby Smart.
But the defense is just overwhelming, and Bo Nix is good but not good enough to keep up today. The total here is 44, but we don’t see how the ‘Barners break double-digits today without a defensive or special teams score. They just don’t have the weapons.
We grabbed this at -6.5 earlier this week, but might even play it up to 10. We think the Tigers get their tales pulled on the road pretty badly.
Navy Midshipmen -6.5 vs. Air Force Falcons
We’re not saying Navy is good, but at least they’ve played two games and decided to start hitting in practice. Triple option football requires rhythm and repetition, and the Mids have simply had more of it than Air Force, who are yet to have played a game yet this season.
You can practice against your #1’s or your scout team as much as you’d like, but there’s an edge in hitting other people, particularly with the triple. We’ll take the road team even though Colorado Springs is a tough place to play.
Oklahoma State -23 vs. Kansas
You’re not going to believe this... but Kansas is really bad at football.
Oklahoma State is getting taxed just a few too many points here because of their not-super-impressive wins over Tulsa (who might not be that bad... we don’t hate them in Orlando +21 today) and West Virginia. But people go to Lawrence, Kansas for two reasons: To watch great basketball, and to put up massive numbers on offense.
Quarterback Spencer Sanders should return to the starting lineup for the Pokes after an injury early against TU, and that should be more than enough to fire up the pinball machine scoreboard at Memorial Stadium. Jayhawks football: Where Big XII offenses go to get healthy.
