Bengals add Joe Mixon to injury report on Saturday with chest injury

Bengals RB Joe Mixon is a very late addition to the team’s Week 4 injury report. We break down what it means.

Game status: Mixon is ACTIVE for Week 4.

Game day update: Mixon is expected to play, according to Adam Schefter. The chest injury is “very minor,” according to Ian Rapoport, but keep an eye on Bengals beat writers for more details leading up to kickoff.

The Cincinnati Bengals made an unexpected announcement 24 hours before their Week 4 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team added running back Joe Mixon to their injury report with a chest injury. Mixon practiced all week but now is listed as questionable for Sunday.

The Bengals do not have media availability between now and kickoff, so we are unlikely to get a lot of clarity on this before inactives come out on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. If Mixon is unable to play, Giovani Bernard would get the start and Cethan Carter would likely get a bump up the depth chart. If Mixon can play on Sunday, Bernard could see some additional work if the team wants to limit Mixon’s touches.

This will be one that potentially comes down to the wire tomorrow. The Bengals play an early game, so you’ll know in time for finalizing your roster, but if you have a spare roster spot, Bernard is worth adding.
