The NFL opens Week 8 on Thursday Night Football when the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers square off in Charlotte. By the close of Thursday, both teams will have officially completed half their 2020 regular season schedule. By the end of Monday Night Football, 13 teams will be halfway through their schedule.
There are no playoff clinching scenarios yet, but a handful of teams are fast approaching a playoff berth. Plenty can change, but along with unbeaten Pittsburgh, the one-loss teams are all but certain to make the playoffs at this point.
The Kansas City Chiefs are among the one-loss teams, but even with a worse record than the Steelers, they have a clearer path to the playoffs. DraftKings Sportsbook has removed them from the odds to earn a playoff berth thanks to the state of the AFC West vs. the AFC North.
The Steelers are 6-0, but Baltimore sits at 5-1 and Cleveland sits at 5-2. Pittsburgh is going to the playoffs, but they face a tough divisional schedule the rest of the way. On the other hand, the Chiefs are 6-1, but they’re trailed by the 3-3 Raiders, 2-4 Chargers, and 2-4 Broncos. They’re winning the AFC West, and it’s happening sooner than later.
Some of our biggest YES improvements from last week are the Packers (-670 to -1250), Ravens (-2000 to -2500), Steelers (-1115 to -2500), and Bucs (-400 to -670). On the other side, the biggest NO changes are the Broncos (-1000 to -1667), Panthers (-455 to -1000), Texans (-2500 to -5000), and Vikings (-1250 to -3335).
Below are DK’s odds to make the playoffs coming into Week 8. It’s worth noting Panthers odds have not been updated since their loss on Thursday Night Football, but they will take a hit.
