The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Maryland Terrapins struggled to open their season last weekend and will look for their first win of the year on Friday night.
Minnesota hosted ESPN’s College GameDay, but the then-ranked No. 21 Golden Gophers struggled to a 49-24 home loss to the Michigan Wolverines, which are now ranked No. 13 in the country. Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim scored a pair of touchdowns rushing and finished with 140 yards on 26 carries. Rashod Bateman played well with nine catches for 101 yards, and quarterback Tanner Morgan turned the ball over twice with an interception and fumble. He completed 18 of 31 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown.
Maryland certainly did not have a whole lot of positives come out of its season-opening loss to a Northwestern team that is coming off a 3-9 season. The Terrapins lost 43-3 in Evanston on Saturday, and they need to correct things quickly as Minnesota comes to town. Maryland kicked a field goal on its first drive of the game, then allowed 43 unanswered points. Taulia Tagovailoa threw three interceptions and completed 14 of 25 passes for 94 yards.
Minnesota won the last game of this matchup when it defeated Maryland 52-10 in 2019.

Neither of these teams looked very good last week, but Maryland looked significantly worse than Minnesota. The Terps got handled easily by Northwestern, but the Gophers at least put up a bit of a fight against Michigan.
Pick: Minnesota (-19.5)
