Game day update: It’s Ben DiNucci’s first career start, which is bound to flush out some changes with the Dallas receiving corps. ESPN Fantasy projects Amari Cooper to lead the pack with 10.4 fantasy points, followed by CeeDee Lamb at 8.5 and Michael Gallup at 6.7.
The Cowboys offense can’t catch a break, as they now look to their third string quarterback to lead them into their Week 8 matchup with division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. As of now it looks like we will be seeing Ben DiNucci under center this weekend, and many are wondering what can be expected from the Cowboys talented group of wideouts? Each of these three receivers’ production has suffered significantly since Dak Prescott sustained his season ending injury. Will their outlook improve this week and are they trustworthy for your starting lineups? We break down the fantasy analysis below.
Fantasy Football analysis: Cowboys WRs Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup
Amari Cooper is currently the 5th ranked fantasy wide receiver on the season, averaging 17.9 PPR points per game. He seems to be the only member of the offense whose value didn’t implode with Prescott’s season exit, as he still managed to score an average of 18.2 points per game in the last two weeks. Cooper appeared to have chemistry with Dalton, but it remains to be seen how he jives with Ben DiNucci. The Eagles secondary is not necessarily a matchup to target for wide receivers, but it’s also not one to completely avoid. The targets have to go somewhere and Cooper has seemed to be the Cowboys first choice to take on the brunt of the workload this season, as he averages 10.3 targets per game. Cooper’s target volume and athletic prowess keep him in WR2 territory and he can be started in lineups despite his team’s quarterback predicament this weekend.
CeeDee Lamb is the 18th ranked fantasy wide receiver this season, averaging 14.2 PPR points per game. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse for Lamb once Dalton took over under center, leading to an abysmal zero reception performance in Week 7. An outing of this nature is likely an outlier, but even so Lamb should not be expected to return to early season form anytime soon. All things considered, he is still worthy of WR3/flex consideration this weekend based on talent and his 8 target per game season average.
Though very talented, Michael Gallup is third in the pecking order of this wide receiver corps, leading to very limited upside. He is currently the 51st ranked fantasy wide receiver and has averaged only 8.9 points per game. In Week 7 he failed to haul in either of his two targets and finished the game with 0.0 points. When the uncertainties of the Dallas offense as a whole are coupled with Gallup’s previously minimal workload, it’s tough to trust him in lineups except in the deepest of leagues. He should be left on the bench in standard leagues this weekend.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Amari Cooper as a WR2
Start CeeDee Lamb as a WR3/flex
Sit Michael Gallup
