Game day update: This will be the Bucs last game without newly signed receiver Antonio Brown in the mix. The questions surrounding the usage of these Bucs RBs makes either a tough start, but Fournette’s proficiency as a receiver still gives him an edge. If Jones has a nice outing in Week 8, it will be a great opportunity to trade him ahead of Brown’s arrival.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two quality running back who are capable of taking over games in Ronald Jones II and Leonard Fournette. The duo split time pretty equally in Week 7 and it’s unclear whether either will take the lead against the New York Giants in Week 8.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bucs RBs Ronald Jones, Leonard Fournette
Jones came into Week 8 on the tail end of three straight 100-yard games while Fournette was hobbled by an ankle injury. However, the Buccaneers’ usual starter played fewer snaps than Leonard against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones saved his fantasy performance by scoring on a one-yard run but Jones totaled more yardage on the ground on fewer carries and through the air. Leonard was targeted seven times while Jones only had one pass thrown his way. The Giants have been one of the better teams in the NFL against the run this year so Fournette’s versatility could make him more of a threat than Jones in this matchup.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
There’s no telling which back will take over in this matchup, but I’d lean on Jones because of how successful he’s been recently. Fournette seems like a better DFS play for GPPs.
