How and what to watch for Michigan State vs. No. 13 Michigan

These look like two teams going in very different directions

The 0-1 Michigan State Spartans go into the Big House this week to take on the No. 13 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor, MI.

Nobody expected the Spartans to be that good this year, but what they did in Week 1 was stunning. They got totally dominated by a Rutgers Scarlet Knights team that hasn’t been good in years. First year head coach Mel tucker has a steep hill to climb, and it won’t get any easier this week. The MSU defense gave up 38 points to Rutgers (again, RUTGERS), and the offense couldn’t do anything on the ground, adding just 50 yards. The Spartans also had seven turnovers, five of which were fumbles. That can’t happen against any team, let alone a top 15 unit like they take on this week.

The Wolverines, led by quarterback Joe Milton, put up 49 points on a solid Minnesota Golden Gophers team last week. Michigan got close to 500 yards of total offense too, running for 256 yards and passing for 225. The defense only gave up 24 points as well to Tanner Morgan and the Gophers in the prime time game. This might be the most complete UM team under Jim Harbaugh.

The Best Bet

This game could get real ugly real fast. Michigan should beat the Spartans by a lot, and they may even hit the over by themselves. It’s a full rebuild in East Lansing for Tucker, and Harbaugh just has too many weapons as of now.
