Sunday Update: It looks like the Lions will have a healthy backfield in Week 7. Peterson popped up on the injury report earlier this week with an abdomen injury but was a full participant in practice on Friday and should continue split most of the running back work with Swift. Johnson should continue to be an afterthought.
The Lions pulled out a buzzer-beater victory over the Falcons in Week 7, winning 23-22. One of Detroit’s two touchdowns was punched in by D’Andre Swift, initiating a two-game TD streak for the young running back. Now, the Lions host the Colts in a game that could lend itself to run-heavy plans. So, should you start a Detroit RB in Week 8?
Fantasy Football analysis: Lions RBs D’Andre Swift, Adrian Peterson
While Swift scored and racked up 14.8 DKFP, he only eclipsed Adrian Peterson in touches by a count of 13 (four receptions) to 12 (one reception). At this stage of the season, it’s safe to say that the Lions plan to keep Adrian Peterson, and even Kerryon Johnson, constantly in the backfield shuffle. Fantasy owners can certainly justify playing Swift over Peterson due to his pass-game role, but the confidence level shouldn’t be high. To pile on the bad news, the Colts are very stingy on defense against the pass allowing the fewest total yards through the air in the league and only 29.7 yards per game to opposing RBs.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Swift as an RB2/borderline flex play. Sit Adrian Peterson entirely.
