Sunday Update: Miller is in shape to play after being limited with hip and groin injuries in practice this week. He’ll play an important role behind Evans while Godwin is out. Johnson could have a more significant role than usual and proved that he can come up big when the receiving corps is depleted.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense was cooking last week and have shown signs that they can be one of the best in the league. They’ve had injuries at the wide receiver position, which has made it a little more difficult to get a handle on preferred targets and this week they’ll likely be without Chris Godwin.
Godwin’s expected absence should help Mike Evans, especially after he was more of a decoy than anything else last week against the Raiders, seeing just two targets to Scotty Miller’s and Godwin’s nine each.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bucs WRs Mike Evans, Scotty Miller, Tyler Johnson
The Buccaneers will play on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants, who have been a poor pass defense, ranking 27th in DVOA. But they do have James Bradberry who can shut down a receiver and has often done so this season. The good news for Mike Evans here is that he’s been getting time in the slot whereas Bradberry doesn’t follow receivers into the slot. Bradberry will likely see a combination of Evans, Miller and Johnson.
Tyler Johnson has moved his way ahead of Justin Watson on the depth chart and will be one of the three starters with Godwin out. Even with few opportunities, Johnson has scored a touchdown in his last two games. Miller and Evans should be the target leaders and make for good plays, but Johnson has some appeal in deeper leagues.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Mike Evans with confidence. Start Scotty Miller as a flex/WR3 play in most 12-team leagues. Start Tyler Johnson in 14-team leagues.
