Sunday Update: The Claypool hype train hasn’t died down yet. The rookie wideout is expected to compete with Smith-Schuster in Week 8 and is projected for 10.62 fantasy points in ESPN leagues. Smith-Schuster is projected for 12.15 fantasy points. Smith-Schuster has been just fine despite lingering knee pain this season and could be a major factor after notching 14 targets in Week 7.
It can be difficult to get a read on any of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receivers when it comes to fantasy football. Any one of the bunch could go off for a huge game one week, only to be mostly silent the next. So what should you do with JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool this week against the Ravens?
Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool
After a string of disappointing games, Smith-Schuster was looking more like the receiver we’ve come to know last week. He was targeted 14 times in that game, posting 85 yards on nine catches. While the production numbers don’t quite match the catches, he’s decent play in fantasy because of volume. The problem this week is his matchup with slot cornerback Marlon Humphrey.
Claypool is really one of those boom or bust type players. He could have a game like he did back in Week 5 against the Browns, scoring three receiving and one rushing touchdown. Or, he could wind up with numbers like last week, one catch on one target for -2 yards. What makes him an interesting option in this game is that the Steelers do use him some out of the backfield, and this feels like a game where they’ll have to get a little more creative with their offensive approach. If you’re a gambler, I like a bet on Claypool this week.
