Rutgers had the most AMAZING COVER in football history... and then it was reversed

Eight laterals, a lineman flipping the ball over his head like an Aussie Rules Football ref... but it was all for naught.

Rutgers was an -11.5 point underdog at kickoff, and down 37-21 with 4th and 32 with 2:05 remaining.

It was over for both the Scarlet Knights on the field, and their backers while wagering. Right? Right??

But then... this:

There was just one problem: The fifth lateral, you know, the one where #15 Shameen Jones was basically falling down... turns out the point where the ball was touched was in front of where it was released.

Illegal touching, five yard penalty... and loss of down. Indiana heads to victory formation for the win, and the cover.

But for about one yard from when it left Jones’ hands, this was one of the most amazing plays you’ll ever see. And this was after RU had already recovered an onsides kick to get in this position in the first place!

You can feel the plaintive wail of Rutgers bettors. Shouldn’t this qualify under the “it was really cool so it counts anyway” rule?
