Covid-19 has come to the New England Patriots locker room. Starting quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for the virus this week, landing him on the COVID/reserve list. The Patriots were supposed to play the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon, but that game has been postponed until at least Monday or Tuesday. Without Newton, the Patriots will go with Brian Hoyer as their starter.
Fantasy Football analysis: Patriots QBs Brian Hoyer
Hoyer saw action in four games with the Indianapolis Colts last season, throwing 372 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. It stands to reason that the Patriots will have a better game plan worked up for Hoyer than whatever the Colts did last season, but this is going to be a tough game for New England, even if they had Newton in the fold.
With Hoyer starting, Jarrett Stidham, who has been a healthy scratch all season, moves into the backup role. If Hoyer struggles, the team could turn to Stidham while Newton’s out. For now, it’s best to avoid both players in fantasy.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Sit Brian Hoyer.
