David Montgomery has been a season-long starter based on volume alone this year and is currently the 18th ranked fantasy football running back. While he hasn’t done much with his large share of carries, averaging only 3.7 yards per carry and scoring only one passing and one rushing touchdown, his volume remains. Does Montgomery belong in starting lineups once again in his Week 8 matchup with the Saints? We break down the fantasy implications below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Bears RB David Montgomery

David Montgomery was confronted with some tough sledding against the Rams in Week 7 and things don’t look like they will get much easier in Week 8 against a Saints rushing defense of even higher caliber. The Saints D/ST currently ranks 6th in points allowed to opposing fantasy running backs, making Montgomery’s outlook a bit gloomier this week. They are allowing an average of only 89.7 rushing yards/game to opponents. Though his aforementioned volume keeps him in the starter conversation, expectations should be tempered in Week 8. Consider Montgomery a low-end RB2 for your lineups.
