It’s hard to know what to make of Baker Mayfield. He was having such a bad time two weeks ago against the Steelers, the Browns pulled him in favor of Case Keenum. He threw two picks in that game, same as the week before that, echoing his 2019 struggles. And just when the conversation had shifted to whether or not he’d get benched, he went out and had a career day against the Bengals in Week 7. Ups and downs like that make it hard to know what to do with him in fantasy.
Fantasy Football analysis: Browns QB Baker Mayfield
After a rough start last week that included his fifth interception in three games, Mayfield threw five touchdowns, rolling up 297 yards in the process. It was the kind of performance that puts a fantasy team over the top. The question now is which version of Mayfield are we going to see this week against the Raiders.
Las Vegas has given up big points to quarterbacks over its last three games. However, those quarterbacks were Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady. Set realistic expectations for Mayfield here, i.e. don’t go into this thinking he’ll throw another five touchdown passes. However, it’s a favorable enough matchup that he can be a useful starter this week, if you’re looking for a guy who can toss a couple touchdowns and keep the ball out of the hands of the defense.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Baker Mayfield.
