All the Indianapolis Colts really need Philip Rivers to do each week in order to succeed is to not screw things up. The Colts are 4-2 and in their two defeats, Rivers posted a 1:4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He has only one multi-TD game this year, but with their strong defense, the Colts don’t need Rivers to save them. Just don’t screw up.
Fantasy Football analysis: Colts QB Philip Rivers
This week, Rivers will take on a Detroit Lions defense that has done a decent job of limiting quarterbacks this year. In their past four games, the Lions have allowed six passing scores and have picked off five passes. They also gave up two rushing scores to QBs during that span, but you know that’s not in the cards with Rivers, who hasn’t scored on the ground since 2011. Rivers exploded for 371 yards and three touchdowns against the Bengals in Week 6, but he has accounted for just four scores in Indy’s five other games. Given that the Lions’ defense can be had by opposing running backs, you should expect the Colts to stay with a conservative game plan in Week 8.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Rivers is as boring as it gets when hunting for a fantasy quarterback. He is only a mid-range QB2 in most weeks, and this week is no different. You can find better options in all formats.
