How to handle Phillip Lindsay’s injury in Week 8 fantasy football

Phillip Lindsay is on the Broncos final injury report for Week 8. We break down what it means for fantasy football roster decisions.

NFL: Denver Broncos at New England Patriots Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Game status: Lindsay is ACTIVE for Week 8.

Game day update: Lindsay is expected to clear the concussion protocol, per Ian Rapoport. This would have him cleared to play on Sunday against the Chargers.

Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay was dealing with a concussion he suffered in his last outing. He missed practice early in the week, waiting to get cleared, but he was back on the field Friday, in a limited role, with his helmet and pads. That points to him being available this week against the Chargers.

Fantasy impact: Phillip Lindsay (concussion)

Assuming Lindsay does play, a fairly safe assumption based on the information available, he will be back into a time share situation with his backfield mate, Melvin Gordon. The later has had an edge in carries when they’re both active on game day. Last week, Gordon carried the ball 17 times for 68 yards and a touchdown, adding another 12 yards on two catches. Lindsay had 79 yards on just nine carries, and he doesn’t have a role in the passing game.

Both guys are decent options for a second running back or flex player in fantasy. Gordon has a slight edge, and he may be extra motivated to show up his old team this week.
